We might be able to resurrect the laptop - I think it's the charger that's actually dead, and there's a new one en route to me...except it's stuck at Gatwick airport, which is apparently about to be cursed by the Greek god Pan or something. So by the time it reaches me, it may be haunted. I'm over 50k into Wolf's Hunt, and was really gunning to have it finished this month, but until I get the laptop working, I'm kind of stuck. And there's always the possibility that I can't get the laptop working, which I'm trying not to think about. Luckily for me, I'm engaged to a tech wizard, and as of tonight I will have a MacBook to see me through until a formal diagnosis is made on my beloved machine.
The hacked bank account is almost sorted...The stolen money was returned yesterday, but I had to cancel my debit card and online banking, leaving me without access to my money >.< The bank won't send the new debit card to my house because of the whole fraud/security aspect of this (which sounds like bollocks to me, to be honest), so I have to go into Cambridge and collect it this weekend. Assuming it's at the bank for me to collect. Which it might not be. Meanwhile, I'm having to ask Kyle for money when I need it, which is ridiculous.
Blah. So there must be some good stuff happening right? WAKING THE LIONESS is out, obviously, and I have a definite sequel in mind for Lara, Zane, and Tate. I'll probably work on that after Wolf's Hunt is finished. And it is nearly finished. It's likely to be twice as long as TANNER'S WAR at this rate, but that seems to be a pattern for me. The first story in a series always seems to be novella-length, and then each subsequent book gets bigger. I guess the only other really good news is that January is nearly over, and February is a short month, so even if it is shit, there's less of it.
But I'm really not a pessimist by nature. I can't help being hopeful, even when I don't want to be. Whether my laptop gets fixed or not, I have a computer to work on and all my writing files can be retrieved. My stolen money is back and if my new debit card arrives on Saturday, I'm going straight to Whittards and buying the biggest tub of salted caramel hot chocolate I can find, dammit. Then I'm coming home, putting on a good, long podcast, and I'm writing until my fingers fall off. More than anything else right now, I really, really want to be writing.
