I bring you not one, but three talented authors today! Elena Kincaid, Maia Dylan, and Sarah Marsh have joined forces to bring us an awesome new series - BEYOND THE VEIL. Let's see what it's all about...Take it away, ladies!
Picture
Thanks so much for hosting us on your blog today. Chasing Faete started out as a fun exercise in our Sinfully More Erotic Street Team group and turned into an entire series.  So far, we have 5 books planned in the series, but I wouldn't be surprised if more sprout up along the way.  All three of us fell in love with this mysterious world Beyond The Veil as well as our very overprotective Shifters on this side of the Veil.

You know what they say … you can’t run away from your fate. But what if your fate tries to run away from you? If you're a wolf … you chase fate instead.

She almost thinks she’s hallucinating when two wolf shifters appear out of nowhere to save her … but that could be the blood loss talking.

Leo and Ben were thrilled to stumble onto the scent of their mate as they were on a routine patrol. They follow their noses and barely find her in time, wounded and battling with a group of armed Fae. Life is about to get a whole lot more complicated when it comes to mating their little pixie.

Erica can't deny the bond she feels with her wolves, but will the need to avenge her family and the fate of the Fae realm cost her the loves she's waited so long to find?

WOLF'S HUNT is out tomorrow, 27th May, and to get you in the mood for some hot, New Orleans-based biker action, I've got a little teaser from chapter one for you...Enjoy!
The scent of sweat and damp sawdust hung heavy in the hot night air. Wolf guzzled down his water and tossed the bottle away, bouncing lightly on the balls of his feet. The crowd surged around him – amazing how many people you could pack into an old barn if you tried. Their cheers, roars, and jeers were deafening as they watched the fight taking place in the center of the barn. A Wild Blood prospect nicknamed Glass Jaw had a fighter from the next town in a vicious choke-hold in the middle of the rough cage. The other guy had fought hard, but Glass had about a foot and a hundred pounds on him, and there was no fucking way the guy was breaking free. Glass could just sit on him all night.

Not much of a fight, to Wolf’s mind, but a win was a win and Glass was on a hot streak.

Wolf was gunning to end it tonight. He grinned to himself as the other guy finally gave up and tapped out. Glass was a brute, but he had no real skill in the cage, just sheer strength. His winning streak had given him arrogance, and he’d been boasting all week ‘bout how he could take anyone, anywhere, anytime. Since he was bringing the club a cut of his winnings, nobody had bothered to correct him yet.

Wolf cracked his knuckles as the ref raised Glass's hand. The crowd roared as the loser limped away, blood dripping from his mouth. The sight stirred something dark in Wolf, turned the desire to fight into a full-blown need. Get in the cage, pound the shit out of Glass, or anyone else stupid enough to take him on. Break some bones, crack some skulls. Unleash the beast.
He pushed through the crowd until he was right at the front, close enough to hear Glass trash-talking to the ref. "Wherever, whenever, I'm telling ya. Nobody in this damn town even comes close..."

Wolf stepped up to the cage, grabbed the mesh and rattled it, letting loose a long, loud howl. Glass jumped, then glowered at him. "Wherever, whenever?" Wolf asked. "How about right here, right now with me, rookie?"
Glass sneered down at him. “Feeling lucky, punk?”

“Don’t need luck against you.” Wolf came round to the door of the cage, catching the eye of the MC President as he did. Nash lounged against the back wall of the barn, a beer in one hand and a joint in the other. He was flanked by Judge, the MC Vice-President, and Judge’s old lady, Roxy. The three of them were never far apart, and even among the crush of people around them, they gave off an air of impenetrability. Solid, unreachable. On another night, Wolf would want to crack them open, see what they were locking away.

Not tonight. Tonight he just wanted to punch the smirk off Glass’s face, and Nash gave him the nod as he entered the cage. It was a silent signal that Wolf could let loose.

It wasn’t like he had a problem with Glass, apart from being sick of his bragging. The guy was a good prospect and had a big love for the club. But some days… Some days a man just needed to fight. For Wolf, those days came maybe a little too often.
The crowd roared as Wolf clapped the ref on the shoulder and squared up to Glass. The bigger man rolled his neck and balled his hands up, holding them at chest-height. Amateur mistake, leaving his face wide open. “Ready when you are, punk.”
Wolf eyed him up as he took off his boots. Wolf was often smaller than his opponents; it never bothered him. He’d had plenty of time to study Glass’s moves, and he hadn’t been impressed. Size and strength were all good if you knew what to do with them, but Glass wasn’t a creative fighter. “Call it,” he told the ref.

The ref raised his arm and bellowed, “Fight!” The crowd erupted again, their bloodlust thick in the air. Glass swung at Wolf, his meaty fist aiming straight for Wolf’s face.

Light on his feet, Wolf ducked inside his guard and rammed his fists into Glass’s kidneys with a one-two blow. While Glass wheezed, Wolf danced away again and kicked out, connecting hard with Glass’s shin. A hot red welt flared up on Glass’s skin and while he reeled from that, Wolf landed another kick on his other leg. The faster he got Glass off his feet, the faster he’d win.

Glass recovered his balance and swung at Wolf again. The blow clipped Wolf’s shoulder, but he shrugged it off and went in for another flurry of kicks. Glass had no formal training or background in MMA, unlike Wolf, and he didn’t know how to defend himself. All he knew was stand-up boxing and a couple of sloppy submission holds. That had done him fine so far against guys who just knew how to bang. Wolf had training in striking, grappling, and ground, the holy trinity for a good MMA fighter. He had an answer for every one of Glass’s moves, and it didn’t take long for the big man to get frustrated.

When Wolf broke away from him, Glass roared and charged like a bull, dropping his head. Wolf lunged forward, driving his knee up and connected solidly with Glass’s face. He couldn’t hear much over the crowd, but he felt the impact rattle all the way through his body, felt the splatter of blood, and knew he’d broken Glass’s nose.

Glass staggered back, eyes glazed, and Wolf rushed in with an uppercut. Glass went to his knees with a grunt. Wolf darted behind him and jumped on his back, forcing him face down to the mat. Wolf hooked his feet around Glass’s massive thighs and wrapped his arm around his neck, slipping him into a rear-naked choke with practiced ease. Feeling the hold locked in, he clasped his hands together and squeezed.

To give Glass his due, he held out longer than most would, trying to twist and throw Wolf off. But the knee to his face and the uppercut had rocked him too hard, and Wolf could feel the fight slipping out of him. The crowd exploded when he finally tapped out. Wolf released him and helped him to his feet. Glass’s face was a mask of blood and his nose was smashed. He wiped some of the blood away and gave Wolf a look that was half anger, half resignation.

“Guess I’m not gonna be so pretty no more,” he said, voice muffled and nasal.

Wolf grinned. “Get yourself to a doctor and when you’re patched up, I’ll show you some real moves.”

I am a bit behind on posting guest blogs at the moment, between Remic's mystery lump and my fiance's on-again-off-again back surgery, but I'm getting caught up again at last! I'm delighted to welcome Elodie Parkes here this morning to get things moving again!

Heart in Chains, Elodie Parkes, Encompass Ink, April 23, 2016 release
MM erotic romance/ suspense

I so enjoyed writing ‘Heart in Chains’. I’d just written, MM romance, ‘A Forever Kind of Thing’ for an Encompass Ink anthology to be released later this year and I was still in MM story writing mode.

Connor and Jay my heroes just gelled in my mind immediately as I considered the kind of adventure Connor might have on vacation in an exotic place such as Indonesia. Jay is a mysterious character, tough, driven, but on the verge of changing his dangerous life when he meets Connor. Connor is still getting over a relationship break up, but it’s been long enough and he’s tired of being single. His former boyfriend’s betrayal stays with him, but as soon as he sees Jay, attraction is seeded in his heart.

These two characters are dear to me. Tenderness lies beneath Jay’s composed and tough exterior and courage lies beneath Connor’s sexual vulnerability. I think both will surprise you as you read their story.

When Connor Douglas takes a tropical island holiday, he hopes to leave heartbreak behind. Little does he know the extent of the danger and sexual temptation that awaits him.

Long after Jay Levesque has closed down his operations on the very same tropical island, the memory of Connor haunts him.

Warm nights and scorching sex has someone’s heart in chains.

Read a teaser...

Darkness was falling as Jay arrived back with another man. They carried a tray each and the other man carried a stool. The other man left, but Jay smiled at Connor as he waited by the bed. Jay flipped a switch on the wall by the door and lit the place. Light streamed downward from the little white coolie-hat shade.

“Come, let’s eat.” He indicated the chair and sat on the stool himself.

Connor dragged his chain as he went to the table. He sat and took the cover off the plate of food. It looked good and the fish was already cut up, which was great since there was no knife, only a fork by his plate. He didn’t expect to be hungry, but after tasting the food, he ate almost all of it before he put down his fork and gave a sigh.

Jay ate slowly. When Connor stopped eating so did he and he placed his fork on the tray.
“It’s good to see you eat. Kiku, the man who brought the food with me, is going to bring coffee. Tell me about yourself.”

Connor turned to face Jay. He felt better after eating. “I don’t get it. Why do you want to know? Why are you being kind?”

Jay frowned. “There’s no need not to be kind. Humor me. Tell me a little about yourself.”

Connor shrugged. “I’m a marine biologist. I’m on vacation. I needed something completely different in my life for a time. These islands seemed like a good idea, far away, warm, beautiful, and …” He stopped talking. What’s the point in this?

Jay pushed his dark hair back from his forehead and folded his arms. He smiled. “Far away. From what, Connor? A love affair gone wrong I think.”

Connor looked down at the remains of his food in confusion. Did he really want to tell his captor about his heartbreak?
“Not that it’s anything to do with you, but yes … I guess.”

Before Connor could react or even know what was happening, Jay reached out a hand and slipped it around Connor’s head. He swooped on Connor’s mouth and kissed him.

The kiss was so unexpected and yet so delicious, Connor closed his eyes and let it happen. He drifted in the soft merge of Jay’s lips on his. The lingering pressure and the way Jay brought his other hand up to caress the back of Connor’s neck was addictive. Connor leaned into the embrace. His cock hardened. Tingles from the circle of Jay’s fingertips on his neck spread down his spine and made his ass feel melted. Thoughts left him. The only thing that mattered right then was the kiss, and he lifted his hands to hold Jay’s muscled shoulders and kiss him in return.

It was Jay who drew away from the kiss.

Connor leaned back in his chair then, shocked at his response.

Battle of the Grotesque Bulge

5/12/2016

When we last left our valiant hero, Sir Remic of Littlebrain, he was being left at the vet's for x-rays and ultrasounds to investigate the Grotesque Bulge that sprang up, seemingly overnight. That was Monday. On Tuesday, Remic (or "Sweetie Pie" as the vet called him), had his x-rays, which were fairly inconclusive. There is definitely a bulge and it's probably attached to his pancreas, was the verdict when I spoke to the vet.

So the next step was surgery on Wednesday, so the vet could see what the bulge was attached to, figure out what it was, and remove it. I can't deny, this turned my stomach a bit. Not because I didn't want him to have the surgery, but because I was scared he might not come round from it. Anesthetics can do weird things to snakes, things to do with temperature, metabolism, and breathing, which is, you know, sort of important.

But I obviously wanted him treated and I trust experts when they tell me their expert opinion, so of course, Rem had the surgery. That happened yesterday afternoon, and when I spoke to the nurse around 5pm yesterday, she said Rem was coming round and seemed fine. Huzzahs! The lump was removed, Sweetie Pie was stitched up, and I could come and collect him as soon as I was ready.

Unfortunately, for various reasons, I couldn't collect him yesterday, so he got to spend another day at the vet's. I went straight from work today (thank you, my darling Pip, for being my taxi), all ready to put Rem back in his glamourous duvet cover/washing basket combo, and take him home. Of course, it doesn't work quite like that.

First I spent some time with the nurse, hearing how Rem was doing ("he's a bit tetchy") and what his aftercare will be. He needs to go back in a week to have his stitches checked, and he needs to be in an environment where he can't damage the stitches in the meantime - no abrasive materials for him to rub against, no water bowl big enough for him to soak himself in. That's fine.

He also needs daily injections of antibiotics for a few days. "Are you happy to inject him?" the nurse asked. I regarded Remic, his head stuck under a towel in the vet's reptile carrier, oblivious to the world. "Sure," I said. So we had a practice at that. I've never injected anyone with anything before, and whilst I'm not squeamish, I am always really paranoid about hurting an animal when giving them medicine. A snake is a pretty tricky proposition, because they're a lot stronger and faster than you expect. Rem is an even trickier proposition because "tetchy" is his default mood.

Still! Never one to shy away from a new experience, I went for it. The nurse held his head and lower body, and I slid the needle under a scale to inject the meds. It's easier than it sounds, and it only took a few seconds. Rem flinched, but then seemed to immediately forget it had happened, which bodes well for the next few days. Huzzahs!

Then it was back in the duvet for the trip home.

And here he is, in what I'm thinking of as his recovery viv. We've taken out everything that might possibly damage the stitches, which was everything. Basically all the ornaments in his tank are designed to help with shedding, so nothing was suitable to leave in. He now has a bed sheet, a cereal box, and a smooth water bowl. He's supposed to be resting, but instead he's trying to figure out how to undo the snake lock, which has been his singular goal in life for as long as we've had him.

He is enjoying the cereal box, however. Which is good, because I don't know when the stitches will come out. When we take him back for his check-up in a week, we'll get to see the vet who operated on him, and hopefully then we'll learn a bit more about what the Bulge was and if it's likely to come back.

Meanwhile, Kyle and I get to take turns injecting Sweetie Pie with antibiotics while Ket looks on smugly. Fingers crossed for a full recovery for Sir Remic!

The Most Monday-ish Monday that Ever Mondayed

5/10/2016

We had a plan for yesterday. Kyle was due to go into hospital for back surgery yesterday morning. I'd booked the day off work to accompany him for moral support and possibly to film him talking gibberish when he came round from the general anesthetic, and to make sure he got home in one piece.

And then the surgery was cancelled, because the surgeon has an eye infection. And I guess, yes, you don't want a visually-impaired surgeon messing around with your spine. So that happened. And I figured I may as well go to work and take back my day of annual leave, and use it later in the month when the surgery actually happens.

And then, whilst casually passing the snake tanks, I saw Remic. This is not unusual. What was unusual was the huge distended lump in the middle of my very slim and elegant idiot. I am 95% positive that was not there last time I looked. Panic ensued.

We were pretty sure it wasn't a gut issue, because he hadn't been fed for a while (in fact, today was supposed to be feeding day). Sometimes when a snake is constipated, you can deal with it yourself by bathing him in warm water, changing the temperature of his environment, or even just handling him yourself. But, like I say, given his feeding schedule, we thought this probably wasn't food-related. Luckily there is a vet in Cambridge that specialises in exotic pets, so I gave them a call, and after a few misunderstandings (I was very nearly registered as Naomi Quark, and Remic as Bulwick), we got an appointment.

An appointment hours and hours away, since I discovered the Grotesque Bulge around 11.30, and the appointment was at 5.15. That's a really long time to have to just hang around and worry about your pet. We were slightly mollified by the fact that Remic didn't seem to notice he had a Grotesque Bulge, but then Remic once bit himself in the tail, so...you know. He's not smart.

He would struggle to qualify as simple

Anyway, since we had no choice but to wait, we waited. I'd have to take him by myself, as Kyle was working from home, and I'd have to take a taxi. That was fine; the taxi company assured me they were happy to transport a snake. The question was, how was I going to transport a snake?

The answer is: in a duvet cover, in a washing basket. Let me say now that getting Remic into a duvet cover ranks up there as one of the most stressful things I've ever done, and I've worked with academics for nine years. He didn't want to go in the duvet cover. He wanted to go in my perfume drawer. This fundamental disagreement between us took place while Yuki, aghast at being shut in the living room, cried mournfully at us. She loves Remic. He's her favourite thing to sit and stare at for hours, and we were not only depriving her of this entertainment, but also keeping her behind a closed door, which she is opposed to on a molecular level.

So. Eventually we got Rem in the duvet cover. Then the taxi driver showed up, having simply been told I would have "a pet" with me. Needless to say, he wasn't expecting the pet to be tied up in a duvet cover. Nonetheless, he hid his concerns well and off we went.

The vet was brilliant, and Rem behaved himself uncharacteristically well, without biting anyone, including himself. Rem had no problems with me or the vet touching the Bulge, and didn't seem to be in any discomfort, but again...idiot. The problem was, the vet has no idea what's causing the Grotesque Bulge. He said it looked like fluid, but when he poked Rem (carefully) with a needle, no fluid of any kind came out. The Bulge is too low down to be a problem with Rem's heart or stomach, but could possibly be a gut issue or a tumour, although it didn't really feel like one according to the vet. We could be looking at some kind of infection or virus, but there's no way to tell with just an external examination.

So I had to leave him there overnight so he can have x-rays and ultrasounds today. There is the possibility that these won't help with a diagnosis, but there's really nothing to lose by trying. I guess every animal lover knows how hard it is to leave your baby at the vets' for any reason, but I kind of take comfort in knowing that Rem will likely not notice any difference.

So there we are. That was a pretty long, worrying Monday that didn't go according to any kind of plan. I have to go back to the vet after work today, hopefully to bring Remic home. Ket did his best to fill the void by trying to eat a mouse tail-first, and Yuki spent some time staring into Rem's empty vivarium in a slightly offended manner. And right now I am waiting again. Waiting for news, be it good or bad. That kinda sucks. This year has not been kind to me on the pet front so far. I shall be crossing Yuki's paws and Ket's tail that Remic comes home without a Grotesque Bulge tonight.

Excerpt:
“Oh my God. Will you just shut up?” Medina Argos growled under her breath as the snakes beneath her skin hissed and whispered. It was the same word, over and over again and she was about to lose her damned mind.

Pretties...

Yes. Pretties. She needed to find a new pretty or her sisters were going to have her head on a spit—and that was before breakfast. She massaged her temples and willed the pounding in her head to freaking stop. The print of the newspaper spread across the table swam like ants in front of her eyes. She lowered her lids, blocking out the bright daylight streaming in through the blinds. Her snakes loved the light but she on the other hand wished it would cloud up and rain like hell. Then at least the migraine would stop. Just another thing for them to disagree about.

The gallery exhibits laid out in the entertainment section tugged at her consciousness but nothing really rang true. Maybe it was the headache.

Pretties...

“Ugh.” She reached for her coffee and took a large gulp.

The full moon was right around the corner and her snakes were at it hard today. Their voices were a snarl of murmurs that were ever so slowly driving her insane. And they really needed another thing to focus on. Like maybe where she could go to find a good brownie. Or some chocolate chip pancakes. But all they wanted to whisper about was the one thing she couldn’t get them to agree on—their next mark.

“Would you hurry up, already?” She mumbled, poking her stylus into her hair. They hadn’t popped out for a visit yet today, but if this headache kept up, goddess only knew. Temperamental at best, her girls were moody man-hating bitches most days and that was saying something.

So she talked to her hair. Most shifters she knew had the same dual natured problems she did, only they weren’t stuck having snakes for hair and an ass that turned into a giant snake rear end. Well, to be fair, her legs sort of turned into the back end of a giant snake, but it was all semantics. On most people’s scale of sexy, snakes weren’t high up on the list. Hell, they probably weren’t even on the list, but when you’re smote by a goddess, it isn’t like you have much say in the matter.

Other people she’d come across in her travels had at least been wolf shifters or even cats. She, on the other hand, was afflicted with a mythological curse that left her hissing at the moon instead of howling at it. One of the snakes wiggled in her hair and she absentmindedly poked at it with her stylus.

“Not yet. Go back to sleep.”

There went the coolness thing again.

The snakes hissed at her in censure and she sighed. She reached for her cup of coffee and took another sip. The hot black liquid slid over her tongue, cinnamon and earthy. The morning had come too soon. Nightmares woke her in the middle of the night, shaking and sweating, just like clockwork. Her throat closed up like it did when the bastard in her nightmare closed his hand around her neck, cutting off her air, his eyes narrowed into slits filled with rage filled spite.

Favored by the goddess...You’ll be crawling by the time I’m done with you.

And she had been.
